KARACHI: A fugitive suspect in the Dua Mangi kidnapping case has surrendered before the court, BOL News reported.

On November 30, 2019, the young woman Dua Mangi was kidnapped in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area and was released after her family paid ransom to the kidnappers.

Agha Mansoor Hussain, who has been declared a proclaimed offender in the case, appeared in the court of Judicial Magistrate East and voluntarily offered his arrest.

According to reports, Agha Mansoor has been arrested in other cases, including kidnapping, and sent to jail. He is a former policeman who was dismissed from service due to his involvement in criminal activities.

He was charged in absentia for his involvement in the case of kidnapping the young woman. However, he escaped two years ago from Tariq Road while returning from court to jail. Police said he was taken into custody and sent to jail after his voluntary arrest.

Earlier in July, the main suspect kidnapping case, Zohaib Qureshi, was arrested while attempting to escape from Sindh to Punjab.

During snap checking on Karampur Link Road near Kandhkot, the suspect attempted to escape when police opened fire. He was subsequently arrested in an injured condition Police signaled a suspicious car to stop but the accused opened fire before being arrested after a shootout.

In January, Zohaib Qureshi and his accomplices escaped from police custody by tricking officers into a false ‘shopping spree’ near Tariq Road while being brought to the city court for a hearing.

The suspects managed to escape due to the gross negligence of constables Naveed Zafar Habib, who have also been arrested on charges of aiding the suspects.

Dua Mangi was 22 when she had been abducted outside a restaurant in the post locality of DHA. She was walking with her friend Haris Fatah on a street late night when the kidnappers pulled up and threatened them both with a gun. Fatah was shot as the kidnappers abducted the young woman and fled.

In January 2021, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) indicted five accused Zohaib Qureshi, Muzaffar, Tariq, Waseem Raja, and Fayyaz Qureshi for abducting Dua and demanding ransom. Agha Mansoor Hussain was declared a fugitive.
