The Federal government has appointed Muhammad Amir Zulfiqar Khan as IG Punjab.

Muhammad Amir Zulfiqar Khan was Deputy DG Anti- Narcotics Enforcement.

Zulfiqar Khan is a grade 1 officer of Pakistan Police Services.

Additional Inspector General (Investigation) Ghulam Rasool Zahid has been appointed as Acting Inspector General Punjab.

AIG Ghulam Rasool Zahid belongs to the 19th Command of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP).

He joined the Police Service of Pakistan in 1991.

The Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police Faisal Shahkar stepped down from his post.

Sources said that Faisal Shahkar will join the United Nations (UN) Advisor Police. Faisal Shahkar has sent a report to the Secretary of Services regarding the resignation of the charge.

Sources also disclosed that the government has not yet given the charge of IG Punjab to any officer.

It should be noted that last month IG Punjab went on a two-week vacation. He applied for the leave to perform Umrah which was granted.

Notably, since the assassination attack on Chairman PTI Imran Khan, there were differences between the Punjab government and the IG Punjab regarding the registration of the case, due to which he had also requested the federal government to withdraw his services.

Meanwhile, Punjab Assembly Speaker Muhammad Sibtain Khan has decided to write a letter to the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi against the illegal action and misconduct of Punjab Governor Baligh Ur Rehman.

The speaker in the letter would highlight the unconstitutional acts of the governor and request the President to stop him, who is his representative, from taking illegal measures.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has also confirmed the decision of the Punjab Assembly Speaker and informed that the letter would be written to the President today.
