ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday sought a report from the Cabinet Division on Toshakhana gifts received by the prime ministers and presidents since 1947 and issued a notice for refusing to provide the details.

The court has given one month time to submit the report. IHC’s Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the petition filed by Abuzar Salman Niazi for the details of the Toshakhana gifts.

The petitioner’s lawyer maintained before the court that the petitioner asked for the details of gifts given by other countries to the presidents and the prime ministers, however, the Cabinet Division refused to provide the information.

He also said that the rejection came as the Cabinet Division said the information is ‘classified’.

The court also remarked that why the petition is only limited to the prime ministers and the presidents and not includes the rest of public servants.

Deputy Attorney General Syed Ahsan Raza informed the court that there won’t be any records before 1990.

The court said that it might be possible that Toshakhana’s records are available. It said to provide the records if available and adjourned the hearing.
