On December 17, Khan had announced to dissolve the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies on December 23.

He was addressing a public gathering in Liberty Chowk via video link flanked by Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan.

Imran Khan had said the decision was necessary as free and fair elections were necessary for economic stability as the nation is sinking. “I fear the gang of thieves imposed on the country. Unless free and fair elections are not held, there will remain a fear that the country might sink,” he had said.
