A day earlier, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Sohail Zafar Chattha requested Islamabad Chief Commissioner to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the suicide blast in Sector I-10 of the federal capital.

In a letter written to the chief commissioner, the Islamabad DIG recommended the formation of an eight-member JIT headed by SSP Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

The incident occurred on Friday morning when a suicide attacker blew himself up when four bike-riding cops of Eagle Squad intercepted them. The martyred cop was identified as Head Constable Adeel Hussain.

A police official was martyred, while seven others including civilians were injured in the blast. Islamabad Police CTD registered an FIR and initiated an investigation.

The Islamabad police were on high alert after receiving information from intelligence agencies of a terror attack which could target sensitive installations, political figures or religious places.
