Renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel on Thursday visited the house of Shaheed Arshad Sharif to condole with the grieved family over tragic demise of the senior journalist.

The Maulana along with his family met the mother and children of Shaheed Arshad Sharif and expressed his heartfelt sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of Sharif.

He told the family that he wanted to come to them earlier but he decided to let other friends and relatives condole with the deceased’s family and he would visit later.

The Maulana also offered Fateha and prayed for the departed soul, “May Allah Almighty grant his sour in eternal peace in Jannatul Firdous”. He also prayed for grieved family.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sharif left Pakistan in August after a number of cases were registered against him. It was reported that he was initially staying in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after which he went to Kenya.

Arshad Sharif was shot dead in Kenya on October 24. Initially, Kenyan media quoted the local police as saying Sharif was shot dead by police in a case of “mistaken identity”.

But later reports from the Kenyan media reconstructed the events surrounding the killing, stating that an occupant in Sharif’s car at the time of his killing was believed to have shot at paramilitary General Service Unit (GSU) officers.

The government subsequently formed team that travelled to Kenya to investigate the killing.

On Nov 29, 2022, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) wrote a letter to the Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai seeking information on slain journalist Arshad Sharif’s stay in the city before his murder earlier this year.

The investigation committee had summoned all nine plaintiffs of first information reports (FIRs) registered against slain journalist Arshad Sharif in different cities of Pakistan.

The investigation committee had penned down letters to Inspector-Generals (IGs) of three provinces and Islamabad and summoned all nine plaintiffs of first information reports (FIRs) registered against Arshad Sharif.

The inquiry committee, in its letters, instructed Inspector-Generals (IGs) to ensure the attendance of plaintiffs in FIRs.

The letter noted that five FIRs were registered against Arshad Sharif in Sindh, one in Islamabad and three in Balochistan. The FIRs registered against the slain journalist include serious charges like treason and sedition.

Earlier on November 24, it was reported that a two-member fact-finding committee set up by the federal interior ministry to investigate the killing of renowned journalist Arshad Sharif has summoned Tasneem Hiader Shah, who claimed to be a spokesperson of PML-N, on November 29.

The FIA has asked to appear before FIA Headquarters on November 29 (Tuesday) along with evidence.

The development comes after Tasneem Hiader Shah levelled serious allegatioins against PML-N top leadership and claimed that the assassination plots against Imran Khan and slain senior journalist Arshad Sharif were prepared in London.
