LAHORE: The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) led by Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) on Monday submitted a no-confidence motion against Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Bol News reported.
No trust motion was also moved against Punjab Assembly Speaker Muhammad Sibtain Khan and Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi.
The no-confidence motion was submitted to the Punjab Assembly Secretariat. The move has been dubbed by political analysts as an attempt to delay the process of dissolution of the provincial assembly.
PTI leader Babar Awan said the opposition would have to prove their majority in the Punjab Assembly. “They will not be able to prove their majority. If they could do that then Hamza Shehbaz would have been the chief minister,” he said.
The Punjab governor, Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman, has signed the order summoning the provincial assembly at 4:00 pm on Wednesday (December 21), requiring the chief minister of Punjab to obtain a vote of confidence in terms of Article 130 (7) of the constitution of Pakistan. The order has been sent to the Punjab Assembly secretary.
On December 17, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had decided to bring a no-confidence motion against the Punjab Chief Minister and the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly.
According to the sources, PML-N had decided to bring a no-confidence motion against the Chief Minister of Punjab Parvez Elahi and the Speaker Punjab Assembly on the issue of the dissolution of provincial assemblies by Chairman PTI Imran Khan.
The development had come as PTI was about to announce the decision regarding the dissolution of assemblies at a rally at Liberty Chowk.
