KARACHI: PTI MPAs in Sindh Assembly staged a protest against the arrest of Senator Azam Swati and called for his release, Bol News reported.

Azam Swati’s son Usman arrived in Sindh Assembly where he was received by PTI lawmakers.  A ruckus ensued when the PTI lawmakers raise the arrest and detention of the veteran politician.

Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh was prevented from speaking on the point of order.

PTI lawmakers protested against Senator Azam Swati arrest and raised slogans in front of the Speaker’s dias calling for his release. PTI MPAs eventually staged a walkout from the assembly session.

Earlier today, the Sindh High Court (SHC) sought details of the cases registered against Azam Swati in the province and stopped police from registering any further cases.

Usman Swati had filed a petition in the SHC against the registration of multiple cases against his father in different police stations across the province.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice KK Agha heard the case. IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon appeared before the court and was asked about the multiple first information reports (FIRs) registered against the PTI senator for the same offence.

The presiding judge inquired the Prosecutor-General Sindh regarding multiple FIRs in a single case. The prosecutor requested time to submit a reply. The court rejected the request and instructed to submit reply by tomorrow.

The court also issued notices to IGP and the PGS. The court also directed the police chief to submit a detailed report regarding cases against Azam Swati in the province.

The SHC bench barred the police from registering more FIRs against him in the province. Later, the hearing was adjourned until December 14. Swati is currently in the custody of Sindh Police over his controversial tweets about senior military leaders.
