KARACHI: Three policemen were arrested on Tuesday after a youth was shot dead for allegedly speeding away when they signaled him to stop, BOL News reported.

The incident occurred in Gulistan-e-Jauhar when two young men riding a motorcycle by stopped to stop by Shaheen Force officers but did not adhere to their directions.

The policemen chased them towards a traffic signal and entered the premises of a residential building and shot one dead. Police confirmed the three cops have been arrested after initial investigation.

According to the police, two persons on a motorcycle were signaled by the Shaheen Force personnel to stop, but when he did not stop, the personnel on the motorcycle chased him and went to the premises of a residential building and opened fire on him.

A young man named Amir Hussain was killed on the spot while climbing the stairs of the building due to firing by the policemen. However, no weapons were recovered from the motorcycle riders.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and asked the Additional IG Karachi to submit a report. He directed to cooperate with the victim’s mother and assured that justice will be provided.

Senior Superintendent of Police (East) Abdul Raheem Sherazi and other officials investigated the shooting and reviewed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the area.

The initial investigation revealed that three cops — Shehreyar, Faisal and Nasir — involved in the incident were at fault and were locked up.

Sherazi said that initial investigations showed that both the youth were not carrying weapons as opposed to the claim of the cops and they had a young girl with them on the bike who remained safe. He said that the authorities were contacting the victim’s parents and a case has also been registered against the cops.
