ISLAMABAD: An earthquake of 5.8 magnitude on the Richter scale has rattled Islamabad and several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab on Thursday evening, Bol News reported.

The tremors were felt in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Malakand, and Swat. Whereas, quakes were felt in Attock, Jhang, Fiasalabad, Sheikhupura, Chiniot and their surrounding areas in Punjab. People came out of homes reciting kalima. Jolts were felt in Azad Jammu and Kashmir too.

The seismological centre said depth of the earthquake was 178 km and its epicenter was Hindukash Region in Afghanistan.

On January 1, tremors had been felt in Mingora city of Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad, earthquake tremors were felt in Mingora city and its surrounding areas, the magnitude of which was 5.2 on the Richter scale.

The Seismological Center had said that the depth of the earthquake was 179 km while the epicenter was the Hindu Kush mountain range.

Due to the earthquake, people came out of their houses reciting Kalima Tayyaba and Istighfar.

Earlier on Sep 05, 2022, Earthquake waves of 5.4 magnitudes shook Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
