KARACHI: The Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) for polio in Sindh will launch a Polio campaign from January 23 to 29 2023, as part of the national immunization days, to give oral polio drops along with Vitamin-A capsules to children under 5 years of age in all districts of the Hyderabad and Karachi division with the target of more than 4,967,244 children.

Sindh has not reported a single case of polio since July 2020 however, Polio virus is still present in the  environment in parts of KPK, therefore we must not get complacent and continue the hard work.  EOC understand that communities in the super high-risk UCs for polio need other services and we are addressing this through new initiatives. We have opened water filtration plants, experimental dispensaries, model EPI centers, mother and child health facilities and doing health camps in underserved areas through-out the province among many other initiatives.

Children can be saved from childhood disease like polio through vaccination and we seek the media’s help to raise awareness regarding this.

The Pakistan Pediatric Association, Pakistan Islamic Medical Association, medical experts across the world, as well as prominent religious scholars in Pakistan, and across the region endorse the oral polio vaccine as the safest and most effective for not only preventing polio but also eradicating it from the environment. During the November 2022 polio campaign, we received more than 99 percent coverage.
