QUETTA: Unknown people blew up a main gas pipeline in Bolan district, late on Tuesday night that suspended gas supply to Quetta and other towns of Balochistan.

Official sources said that the unknown miscreants planted explosives under the pipeline in the Gokrt area, some 15 km of Dhadar town, the district headquarter of Bolan district, and blew it up.

“It was one of the main 12 inches diameter gas pipelines, which pass through the mountainous area of Bolan Pass blown up by unknown people,” officials of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) Quetta said.

The supply was affecting the provincial capital Quetta, Mastung, Pishin, Ziarat, Mach and surrounding areas of Quetta.

“The people line is broken and a huge quantity of gas is released from the blasted pipeline,” Mehmood Notezai, SSP Bolan confirmed said. He said that police and levies teams have been sent to the spot for assessing the damage on the pipeline.

The SSGC officials said that the gas supply in the affected pipeline has been cut off from Sibi causing suspending gas supply to many areas including Quetta. The engineers and other SSUC staff would visit the area in the morning after security Clearance. However, the SSGC officials said that the repairing of the damaged the pipeline will take at least one week.
