Gwadar journalist released, FIR lodged against Maulana Hidayat
QUETTA: The local administration has released the arrested local journalist who was detained along with 15 other people from Gwadar under session 3 of the16 MPO and had been sent to district jail Turbat.
Police had also registered an FIR against Maulana Hidayat-Ur-Rehman the head of the Haq Do Tehreek on the charges of murder of a police constable on December 27 who was killed in firing from the mob during violent protests in the port city of Gwadar.
“FIR registered against Maulana Hidayat-Ur-Rehman on the charges of murder, attempt to murder, provoking the people for violence and other charges,” a senior police officer said here on Monday. However, he was not arrested so far as he disappeared from Gwadar.
Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Ezzat Nazeer confirmed that 15 people who were involved in violence during the protest procession were taken into custody and detained them in Turbat Jail under session 3 of the 16 MPO for the period of one month.
Local journalist Obaidullah was also sent to Turbat jail along with 15 other people under the 16 MPO. Obaidullah works for a Karachi based Urdu daily newspaper.
The Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) and local journalists of Gwadar strongly reacted to the arrest of the local journalist. The president of BUJ Irfan Saeed and other office bearers took up the issue with the Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, Home Minister Ziaullah Langove and police high up I Quetta and demanded immediate release of the Gwadar based journalist.
The efforts of the BUJ proved successful and the Gwadar administration released Obaidullah late evening from Turbat jail.
