Secretary Election Commission Umar Hameed received another letter from the Interior Ministry. In which they denied static deployment of Army and Rangers on every polling station in the local bodies elections in Karachi, Hyderabad and Thatta.

The letter stated the following: “The issue of deployment of Army and Rangers was taken up with GHQ, as informed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Static deployment of such a large number of Army and Rangers personnel is not possible. Static deployment is the responsibility of the provincial government first of all. It is not possible to provide security cover to election staff and material.

It has already been informed that static deployment is not possible at such highly sensitive polling stations. As it is not possible to provide security cover to election staff and material. However they haven’t completely refused the idea and asked the EC to ” identify 500 highly sensitive polling stations. The rangers can be statically deployed outside five hundred highly sensitive polling stations. Rangers personnel will assist the police.”

The Election Commission had written a letter to the Ministry of Interior today regarding the static deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel during the local body elections.
