Karachi LB polls: JI announces nationwide protest against ‘altering’ results

KARACHI: Jamaat e Islami Amir Siraj ul Haq on Monday announced countrywide protest against alleged altering of local bodies election results in Karachi.

Siraj asked the people and workers of JI to hold protests and rallies in their cities.

Earlier, Siraj ul Haq contacted Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja on telephone on Monday and expressed concern over irregularities during the local government elections in Sindh, including delay in results.

According to the details, Sirajul Haq had expressed his concern over the delay in the results of the Karachi local bodies elections.

Siraj-ul-Haq said that the JI would not allow anyone to steal the elections like the general elections 2018.

He further said that there would be strong resistance if there was an attempt to steal the public mandate in Karachi.

Meanwhile, alleging the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of rigging the local bodies elections, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday evening said they would not accept the Karachi LB elections results.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has emerged as the largest party in the Local Government (LG) elections in Karachi.

The Jamiat-e-Islami was placed second in the polls followed by a disappointing performance by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) finally received the consolidated results of all union councils in Karachi after a long delay.

According to the final results, PPP has won 93 seats of Union Council Chairman/Vice Chairman in the polls, making it the largest party in municipal elections.

Jamaat-e-Islami won the polls on 86 seats, while 40 candidates of the PTI emerged victorious on 40 seats in the polls.
