MQM-P’s Wasim blames ECP, Sindh govt of pre-poll rigging in LG elections
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-P (MQM-P) leader Wasim Akhtar on Tuesday blamed the Election Commission of Pakistan and Sindh government of pre-poll rigging in the local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.
It is pertinent here to mention that on the eve of Karachi local bodies elections, the MQM-P had announced to boycott the polls over delimitation issue.
Talking to media, the former Karachi mayor said people rejected them and did not cast vote. He said the ECP failed in the LB polls and the elections would be remembered as a black spot. The people of Karachi and Hyderabad were stabbed in the back, he maintained.
He said the ECP smashed wishes of the Karachiites. He alleged that people were stamping ballot papers in the streets. They tried to occupy Karachi and Hyderabad through fake mandate, he added.
The MQM-P leader said results were delayed to increase the turn out. He said the Sindh government and election commission collectively altered delimitations.
“The ECP is bound to hold free and fair elections, as per the constitution. The MQM has a mandate in Karachi. We pointed out at various spots about faults in delimitations. The thing we feared, came out on January 15. We mentioned several times that markings of constituencies were wrong,” he said alleging the ECP and Sindh government of gerrymandering.
