KARACHI: Police raided a veterinary hospital and arrested the owner in a case related to the alleged murder of a woman whose body was recovered from the sea.

The body of Sara Malik, aged 22-year-old, was recovered from the sea after frantic efforts for two days. Sara went missing from Sea View beach on Friday and reportedly committed suicide after jumping into the sea.

Police started its investigation into the case after the girl’s father claimed she could have been sexually assaulted and murdered before being thrown in the sea.

Police raided a veterinary hospital in Nishat Commercial Area of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and arrested the owner Shaan Saleem.

The investigation officer Asghar Brohi said the suspect has initially confessed to killing the girl after assaulting her. He said the police are interrogating the suspect for further information.

He said the girl’s shoes and bags were found from sea view. Police said another woman Dr Bisma has also been nominated in the case but has not yet been arrested.

Police said that the girl informed her father on phone about that she was raped by Shan Saleem.  The victim’s father registered an FIR with the Sahil police station and alleged that his daughter was assaulted by the owner of the veterinary hospital and might have committed suicide under mental stress.

In the complaint report, he said Sarah left home on Friday to perform her duties at a veterinary hospital. He said his daughter also had a relationship with Shan but had a heated argument and left the hospital.

The body of Sara Malik was recovered on Sunday morning. Her identity card was found in her handbag from Do Darya area after which she was identified. Police had reached the spot and started an investigation.

The body has been shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where her post-mortem was conduct to ascertain the cause of her death. Her family members were also present and claimed that Sara was murdered.
