KARACHI: A policeman was shot dead by unknown armed men near Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi, Bol News reported.

The incident occurred when two armed men opened fire at two policeman riding a motorcycle near Brigade Lines area.

According to reports, Assistant Superintendent (ASI) and Station House Officer (SHO) were riding a bike when armed men opened fire on them.

ASI Iqbal was seriously injured in the incident. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his wounds. However, SHO Khaliq Rafiq remained safe. They suspect managed to flee after the incident.

DIG East Muqadas Haider said they received report of a scuffle in the area on Madadgar 15 helpline. He said the police reached the spot after receiving information about a dispute.

He said ASI Iqbal and SHO Khalid encountered the criminals when they opened fire on him. He said ASI Iqbal was martyred in the firing while SHO Khalid Rafiq remained unharmed.

DIG East Police said the a search is ongoing to apprehend the absconding suspects, while blockades, and raids are also being conducted to apprehend them.

Police said authorities are conducting further investigation regarding the incident.
