Local bodies elections in Sindh face serious security concern. The National Security agencies informed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) about the proceedings in the meeting.

The institutions informed the election commission about security concerns for local bodies elections in Sindh. They advised the ECP to postpone the elections. They stated that banned organizations Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have threatened of attack. Further stating that they suspected presence of strong network of the aforementioned outfits in Karachi.

Earlier, a meeting was arranged by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon regarding the local body elections where he took into consideration the overall security measures in all the districts of Sindh during the polls.

The IG Sindh directed authorities that the details of the Union Councils and polling stations in all the districts of Sindh should be rearranged into highly sensitive and normal classifications on the basis of regular crime analysis and an extraordinary security plan should be prepared.

He said that the necessary steps should be taken as soon as possible to ensure the safety of life and property of the citizens at all levels on the occasion of local body elections.

Earlier today, Memon said the local government elections will not be held in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Dadu.  He said the Sindh government withdrew the notification regarding the delimitations of the constituencies in Karachi after reservations by the MQM.
