ISLAMABAD: District and Sessions court granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry in a sedition case filed against him by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Additional District and Sessions Judge Faizan Haider Gillani granted bail to former information minister in a case registered against him for ‘threatening’ members of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The court approved Chaudhry’s bail petition on the condition that he would not repeat any such words against a constitutional institution.

The judge granted bail to the PTI leader against surety bonds worth Rs20,000.

Earlier, Islamabad police arrested former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry from his residence for ‘threatening’ Election Commission of Pakistan members a week ago.

A case against Chaudhary was registered at the Kohsar police station in Islamabad on the complaint of Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Omer Hamid Khan.

Later, District and Sessions court in Islamabad rejected the police’s plea to extend PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry’s custody and sent him to jail on judicial remand.

Judicial Magistrate Waqas Ahmad Raja heard the case and issued a detailed five-page verdict. The investigating officer sought to extend the physical remand of the former minister by four days.

PTI leader was produced before the judge after the two-day physical remand ended. Police urged the court to extend the PTI leader’s physical remand.

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry’s wife has said that Fawad was kidnapped first and then the FIR was lodged.
