KARACHI: The funeral prayers of General (retd) Pervez Musharraf took place in Malir Cantonment’s Polo Ground at 1:45 pm today.

The former army chief breathed his last on February 5 in United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he was under treatment for a rare disease.

The mortal remains of the former president were brought to Karachi last night via a special flight from UAE after getting NOC from the Pakistani embassy in UAE.

Strict security arrangements have been ensured for the funeral prayers of the former military ruler and Rangers have taken over the arrangements at the cemetery.

General Pervez Musharraf died at the age of 79.

The former president and chief of army staff had been suffering from amyloidosis, a rare disease caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body.

The former military ruler left the country in March 2016 for Dubai to seek medical treatment and didn’t return to Pakistan since.
