ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad court on Monday approved three-day physical remand of Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib till March 2, in the case pertaining to incitement for rebellion against the institutions.

The detailed verdict in this regard was released by Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah of district and session court. The police had sought first remand of the suspect in the case of unbailable sections.

The verdict read that the police wanted to get his photogrammetry test from Lahore and voice-matching from Islamabad. The court directed the police to get his medical check-up before starting of the three-day physical remand and after its ending.

A case was lodged against the retired general under PPC Sections 153 and 505. Prosecutor Adnan apprised the court that Amjad Shoaib tried to spread hatred towards the government while speaking on a private TV channel. The prosecutor said Amjad Shoaib attempted to spread hatred between the government, opposition and government officials. He said the suspect could be jailed for five years under the sections.

Lawyer of the retired army officer said if justified criticism was wrong then one should remove opposition from the system. He said his client had only given an example in a certain situation. Did he say such a thing which was not allowed in the law, he asked saying that the case against him was lodged on political grounds.

Amjad Shoaib was arrested by Islamabad Police on Sunday night for allegedly inciting the public against state institutions and his three-day physical remand had been approved by a local court.

As per details, officials from Ramna police station detained the former army officer from his residence early morning in Islamabad.

The military officer was presented before the court and the police sought a seven-day remand. The lawyers argued in the court that the the sections inserted in the FIR do not apply to Amjad Shoaib and reuqested the court to discharge the case.
