LHC declares appointment of 19 law officers illegal
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday declared the appointment of 19 law officers by the Caretaker Government of Punjab as illegal.
According to the details, in the case of the dismissal of law officers in Punjab in the Lahore High Court, the court upheld the dismissal of 97 law officers including Advocate General Punjab Ahmed Owais.
Court ruled against the re-appointment of 19 law officers posted during the tenure of former Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz.
A five-member larger bench comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the Lahore High Court reserved its decision after the arguments were completed.
In today’s hearing, Mansoor Awan, the lawyer of the Punjab government, said that the Advocate General is bound to act according to the advice of the government. The Advocate General is the principal law officer who cannot appear in court by himself.
Advocate General Punjab Ahmad Owais’s lawyer Abid Zuberi also appeared in the court, while Election Commission’s lawyer Shahzada Mazhar submitted a written reply in the court.
It should be noted that earlier the case related to the dismissal of Advocate General Punjab, law officers, and heads of independent institutions was set for hearing by the court, after which a five-member larger bench of Lahore High Court was formed under the supervision of Justice Ali Baqar Najafi.
Advocate General Punjab and other officers had challenged their dismissals on behalf of the caretaker government, while heads and board members of autonomous bodies had also challenged their dismissals.
