NAB deputy chairman given additional charge of chairman
ISLAMABAD: Deputy Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Zahir Shah has been given the additional charge of the NAB chief, Bol News reported.
Zahir Shah will perform duty as the chief of the accountability watchdog until posting of the NAB chairman.
The coalition government had started mulling over appointment on the vacant post of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, after Aftab Sultan resigned from the office on February 21, Bol News had reported.
Two names were under consideration for the post of chairman, the sources had said. They had said name of Special Assistant to Prime Minister Fawad Hasan Fawad was under consideration for the post of NAB chief.
The sources had said the government was also discussing appointment of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Bashir Memon as the chairman of the accountability watchdog.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had accepted the resignation of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Aftab Sultan.
The prime minister had appreciated the services of Aftab Sultan and lauded his honesty and uprightness.
Sources had revealed that the chairman resigned due to personal reasons. It was also said that NAB’s powers were reduced under the NAB Amendment Act and Aftab Sultan had reservations over it.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had accepted the resignation of Chairman NAB.
He was appointed as head of the anti-graft chief last year in July.
The Prime Minister’s Office had said that the premier has accepted Aftab Sultan’s resignation unwillingly while the Prime Minister has appreciated Aftab Sultan’s services as NAB Chairman.
