Over two-thirds of Sindh police posted on security of VVIPs: sources
KARACHI: More than 67 per cent of Sindh Police personnel are posted on security of VVIPs, Bol News reported quoting sources as saying on Friday.
As per the police record, the number of police officials across Sindh is 120,000, however the number of personnel posted in police station is just 36,000. The sources said the inspector general of Sindh police has taken notice of the extremely low number of police officials.
The IGP has sought record of the gunmen posted on security of VVIPs. He also directed all the senior superintendents of police to submit their affidavits as action would be taken against them, if the gunmen were posted on security of any irrelevant person.
The sources said a large number of police officials were also reportedly on “visa”. “Being on visa means, they are usually absent from duty,” they said adding that such officials “gifted” a portion of their monthly salary to officers.
On February 18, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi had strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the police office in Karachi.
Taking strict notice of the attack, the prime minister had asked for a report on the incident. He had appreciated the police and security forces for their effective action against the terrorists.
He had instructed Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan to extend full cooperation of the federal government in the clean up operation against the terrorists.
He had underlined the need for collective action and full force of the state to root out the menace of terrorism.
He had said the terrorists had once again targeted Karachi but this kind of cowardly acts could not weaken resolve of police and the law enforcement agencies.
“The whole nation stood with police and security institutions,” he had said and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
