VEHARI: A local court remanded two suspects allegedly involved in raping a bus hostess in Vehari in police custody for four days, Bol News reported.

Police produced the two suspects – guard Shiraz Ali and driver Asif – in court. The accused were arrested after sexually assaulting bus hostess Laiba Zahid in a moving bus heading from Mailsi to Sadiqabad.

The plaintiff Laiba Zahid also appeared in court for the recording of confessions and statements under Section 164 of the Criminal Code.

Police station Daniwal requested the court for physical remand of the accused for fourteen days. However, the court approved the remand for four days and handed over the suspects to police.

However, the victim’s father complained that the police is not cooperating with them. He claimed the police have registered the FIR of their own accord without consulting them.

The horrific incident occurred on Saturday when a staff member of a private bus raped a hostess while traveling through district Vehari.

The victim lodged a complaint and said all passengers had left the bus at Mailsi. The girl said she was using her mobile phone when the guard called several times to come at the last seat but she ignored him.

The bus driver asked her to fetch a cell phone from him, she said. “When I came towards the last seat, the guard pushed me to lay on the seat.  Then he raped me. The driver stopped the bus only after my shouting. When we reached in Vehari, the guard gave me Rs2,000 and asked not to tell anyone,” she said.

The victim said she immediately called at helpline 15 and the police assured to take action against the culprits. Later, police arrested the guard and bus driver.

Police said the bus was travelling from Sadiqabad to Vehari when the incident happened and further investigation is underway.
