KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court approved two-day physical remand of PTI MPA Arsalan Taj Ghumman in a case related to attacking the office of Keamari deputy commissioner.

Police produced the PTI Karachi secretary general before the court amid tight security. Police demanded ten-days remand of the PTI leader to interrogate him in the case.

PTI’s lawyer Advoctate Shujaat Ali Khan said Arsalan Taj was not present at time of the incident but rather in the Sindh Assembly.

He said they have evidence that his client was falsely implicated in the case. He said the Call Data Record (CDR) of Arslan Taj’s mobile phone should be checked. He said Arslan Taj has been arrested on political grounds. He urged the court to exclude Taj’s name from the case.

After hearing arguments, the judge handed him over to police for two days on physical remand. The court asked to provide evidence at the next hearing.

Talking to media outside the court, Ghumman said they are not afraid of arrests. He vowed to continue to support Imran Khan under all circumstances. “I am all smiles now and now its your turn to worry.”

The development comes a day after the provincial lawmaker was taken away reportedly by security officials from his residence in Gulshan-i-Iqbal in the early hours of Sunday.

It emerged that the lawmaker had been taken into custody by the police for a case related to attack on Keamari deputy commissioner’s office.

In January, Karachi police registered a case against PTI Sindh President Ali Haider Zaidi and 17 other party workers, including Arsalan Taj, under terrorism and other charges for rioting outside the DC Office.
