ECP writes to President on Punjab election date

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has sent a letter to President Dr Arif Alvi regarding the date of the election in Punjab.

The election commission has suggested the first week of May for polls in Punjab and also proposed dates from April 30 to May 7.

It should be noted that an important meeting regarding the date of elections was held in Punjab under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner during which important issues were discussed.

After the meeting, the Election Commission wrote a letter to the President and told that the President will announce the final date of the election in Punjab.

Apart from this, the Election Commission has also issued a letter to Governor KP for the elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which the consultation has been emphasized in the light of the Supreme Court’s decision.

Earlier, in the meeting, the commission decided to hold the elections of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab in the light of the Supreme Court’s order.

Election Commission said that Ramadan and Eid will be taken into consideration in the proposal of election dates and there will be final consultation with the stakeholders on the election dates.
