Former British ambassador Craig Murray has blamed that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) deposed Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan as prime minister for opposing the US drone strikes.

In a tweet, Craig Murray said, “The CIA’s deposing of Imran Khan as Prime Minister, for his opposition to the US drone campaign operating within and from Pakistan, is probably the most under-reported story of the last couple of years.”

Former Sindh governor Imran Ismail asked if more evidence were needed after the important statement of the former UK ambassador that Imran Khan was removed by the CIA on the campaign against American drone attacks. “Who else was involved in the CIA’s facilitation of the imported government?” he asked.

Quoting the tweet, senior PTI leader Shireen Mazari said, “Indeed it is. He refused to give ALOC & bases too for military use especially against Afghanistan. As he kept reiterating we are with u in peace but will not be a part of your war.”

On February 12, Imran Khan had said the United States was not involved in the regime change operation during his government, Bol News had reported.

In a video address, Imran Khan had said the regime change operation had been abortive. He had said Pakistan had good trade relations with the US.

He had blamed the former army chief for the regime change. He had said the former army chief was not answerable to anyone, Shehbaz Sharif was his favourite and he had already decided to make Shehbaz Sharif prime minister.

“On the last night of the regime change, when I asked if someone was crying, he accepted that it was him,” he had said.
