LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has sought permission to hold a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday, March 19.
The district administration is unlikely to provide permission to hold the rally due to the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) being played in Lahore on the same day.
PTI Lahore President Sheikh Imtiaz submitted an application to the district administration stating that the public gathering will be held at 2 PM due to the PSL final and security arrangements should be made for the rally.
The district administration denied receiving any application to host a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan. It said there is a complete ban on processions at Minar-e-Pakistan and public gatherings due to the volatile security situation.
The district administration said permission for the public rally would be given by the district intelligence committee after reviewing all safety measures.
Sources revealed the authorities will take a decision after consultation with the caretaker Punjab government. The district administration is considering giving PTI permission to hold the rally in Nasir Bagh instead of Minar-e-Pakistan.
The authorities said a cricket match is being held on the same day in Lahore and the security situation needs to be reviewed before graning permission.
