LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has sought permission to hold a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday, March 19.

The district administration is unlikely to provide permission to hold the rally due to the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) being played in Lahore on the same day.

PTI Lahore President Sheikh Imtiaz submitted an application to the district administration stating that the public gathering will be held at 2 PM due to the PSL final and security arrangements should be made for the rally.

The district administration denied receiving any application to host a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan. It said there is a complete ban on processions at Minar-e-Pakistan and public gatherings due to the volatile security situation.

The district administration said permission for the public rally would be given by the district intelligence committee after reviewing all safety measures.

Sources revealed the authorities will take a decision after consultation with the caretaker Punjab government. The district administration is considering giving PTI permission to hold the rally in Nasir Bagh instead of Minar-e-Pakistan.

The PTI chief led a rally from Zaman Park to Data Darbar where he made the announcement to hold a rally at the iconic venue. A large number of PTI workers and supporters attended the rally which crossed different routes in Lahore.

While addressing PTI activists, Imran Khan said that the government is imposing restrictions to suppress the voices supporting their party and they will remain steadfast.

He added that they will never forget martyred PTI activist Zille Shah. He vowed that the policemen responsible for torturing and killing Zille Shah murder will face penalties.

Imran Khan said that this is not his personal fight but for the whole nation. The PTI chief said he is taking to the streets despite facing threats to his life. He said the country is now on the brink of destruction and they are struggling to get real freedom
