LHC stops FIA from taking action against Fawad Chaudhry

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has stopped the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from taking disciplinary action against Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Bol News reported.

The high court was hearing the petition against the FIA’s show cause notice to Fawad Chaudhry over demanding inquiry against Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz for taking gifts from Toshakhana. The PTI leader had said this in a tweet.

The LHC sought replies issuing notices to the federal government, FIA director general and other stakeholders. Chaudhry’s counsel Zafar Iqbal Mangan had given arguments in the court.

The court adjourned the hearing till March 24.

On March 16, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had stopped the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from arresting and harassing Bol News Islamabad Bureau Chief Siddique Jan, Bol News had reported.

The IHC had sent notices to the Islamabad inspector general of police and FIA director general and sought replies. “Reply, if an inquiry or case is pending against Siddique Jan,” the court had inquired.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq was hearing the case. The Bol News Islamabad bureau chief had appeared with his counsel Mian Ali Ahsfaq before the court. Siddique Jan had said reports were doing rounds that the FIA or police wanted to arrest him.

Mian Ashfaq had said his client had surrendered himself before the court, so the court should seek details from them. He had said he feared that the police or FIA could arrest against Siddique Jan.
