ISLAMABAD: Under-construction Bhara Kahu bypass collapsed in Islamabad on Thursday, Bol News reported. Rescue teams have arrived on the site of the incidence.

The Islamabad Police confirmed that girders of the under-construction bypass in Bhara Kahu have collapsed. Police said no life loss took place as a result of falling of the girders. “Police and other rescue organisations are present on the occasion,” they said adding that traffic police officials were also present to ensure smooth flow of small traffic.

On February 25, at least two labourers had died and three others got injured after pillar of Bhara Kahu flyover fell down as a trailer rammed into it , Bol News had reported.

Islamabad Police had said multiple labourers got stuck under rubble of the under-construction pillar of the flyover. Heavy contingent of police and rescue organisations had reached the spot to help the victims.

The Islamabad Police spokesperson had said the wounded labourers were shifted to hospital for medical assistance. “The masses should avoid going to the site of the incident so that the rescue work could be done smoothly,” the police had said.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had taken notice of the collapsing of shuttering of the under-construction flyover’s pillar in Bhara Kahu. He expressed sorrow over loss of the lives and directed the Islamabad chief commissioner to complete the rescue operation as soon as possible.
