In 1952, King George V of Great Britain passed away. Due to the unexpected nature of his death, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II was delayed by more than a year.

King of Saudi Arabia Abdulaziz Al-Saud delegated his son Crown Prince Fahd Bin Abdulaziz to attend the ceremony.

The elegant ceremony was attended by kings, royalty, heads of state and distinguished guests from around the world.

In 1953, Crown Prince Fahd Bin Abdulaziz went on his first official tour to London to attend the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on behalf of the kingdom.

During the ceremony, Crown Prince Fahd noticed that he preceded Japan’s Crown Prince Akihito in the seating arrangement protocol of the Royal Palace of Great Britain.

He went to the Japanese Crown Prince, shook his hand and allowed to precede and sit on his seat. Now the Saudi Crown Prince was sitting behind the Japanese Crown Prince.

The Japanese were grateful for this gesture and to this day they’ve made it a point to make the first official trip by the Japanese Crown Prince to Saudi Arabia.
