PTI Chairman Imran khan on Wednesday challenged his indictment in the cipher case.

Imran Khan filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, through his lawyers Salman Safdar and Khalid Yusuf.

The petition requests that the court’s order dated October 23, which initiated the indictment proceedings, be declared null and void.

In this legal action, plaintiff Yusuf Naseem Khokhar and the State have been made parties to the petition.

The grounds for this challenge rest on the interpretation of the law, which states that charges can only be framed seven days after the distribution of the case’s copy.

Petition adds that the trial court’s actions are being questioned, as it is alleged that the court did not adequately consider this statutory requirement of the seven-day period before framing charges.

The petition argues that the trial court has hurriedly imposed the charges and is aiming to expedite the trial.

It is emphasized that there have been no directions from the High Court to hear the trial on a daily basis or to expedite its proceedings.
