CHARSADDA: Charsadda police have re-arrested former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser and taken into custody in connection with a vandalism case and shifted to Charsadda under stringent security measures.

Earlier today, an anti-corruption court in Abbottabad granted bail to Asad Qaiser in a separate corruption case. The allegations involve corruption in the procurement of equipment for Gajju Khan Medical College. Qaiser had been initially arrested on November 3 from Bani Gala, Islamabad.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) had booked Qaiser for alleged corruption in the acquisition of medical equipment for Swabi’s Gajju Khan Medical College.

The FIR indicated that Qaiser and four health department employees had caused a substantial financial loss to the exchequer through corrupt practices during the PTI government’s tenure.

Having been elected twice from both a National Assembly and provincial assembly constituency, Asad Qaiser served as the speaker of the provincial assembly following the 2013 general elections. His victory in the 2018 polls elevated him to the position of the National Assembly speaker.
