COP28 creates fund to address climate disaster impact
DUBAI: The COP 28 climate summit has formally approved the establishment of a Loss and Damage Fund aimed at addressing the impacts of climate disasters.
This announcement was made by President of COP 28, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, during his address to the participants in Dubai on Thursday.
He said COP28 Presidency is committed to delivering outcomes for the climate vulnerable. He said UAE is committing 100 million dollars to Loss and Damage Fund.
The delegates from Germany, UK and United States and Japan have also pledged to contribute 100 million, 75.8 million, 17.5 million and 10 million dollars in the fund respectively.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, who is in Dubai, will also attend the COP 28 Conference.
He will also attend the summit tomorrow and Saturday.
Earlier, at the outset of the conference, COP27 president Sameh Shoukry handed over the charge to COP28 president Sultan Ahmed Al Jabber .
About 180 heads of states and thousands of delegates from around the globe are participating in the event.
The conference will continue till 12th of next month.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar is in Dubai to attend the 28th United Nations Conference of Parties on climate change.
The Prime Minister will head Pakistani delegation at the 28th Conference of Parties.
The Prime Minister will attend the World Climate Action Summit on Friday and Saturday.
Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, Caretaker Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Caretaker Federal Minister for Climate Change Ahmed Irfan Aslam and Caretaker Energy Minister Muhammad Ali will also participate in COP 28.
