ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has denied the news about the delay in the general elections.

The ECP has decided to take strict action on the news related to the delay in the elections.

The news of non-preparation of election lists is fabricated and false, the ECP spokesperson said.

The ECP has decided to approach PEMRA regarding news about the delay in the elections.

The Electoral dogwatch has asked PEMRA for the transcript of the false news about the delay in the elections on the channels.

Earlier, Election Commission of Pakistan has officially announced the date of general elections for the National and four Provincial Assemblies as 8th of February next year.

A notification of ECP issued today says that in light of the Supreme Court’s orders from constitutional petitions numbered 32 and 36, of 2023, and after a subsequent meeting with the President of Pakistan, the notification has been issued to confirm the date.

On the other hand, the Election Commission decided to publish final delimitation list on 30th of this month.

This decision was made in a meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in Islamabad today.

The meeting was apprised that printing of the final electoral list is also underway in NADRA and its delivery will be ensured till election programme.

Similarly, necessary arrangements for printing of ballot papers and purchase of election materials have been completed.

The meeting was further informed that a plan to impart training to District Returning Officers, Returning Officers and polling staff has been finalized and its timely implementation will also be ensured.

The Election Commission expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made so far regarding the upcoming elections saying that it is ready to hold elections.

The meeting was apprised that details will be sought from the provinces within a week for deployment of law enforcement agencies personnel to ensure law and order and peaceful conduct of the elections.
