The caretaker government on Tuesday approved the formation of a three-member committee to address cases of enforced disappearances.

The Ministry of Law and Justice promptly issued a notification formalizing the establishment of the committee.

According to the notification, the Chairman of the committee will be the Home Minister, with the Law Minister and Defense Minister serving as members.

The federal cabinet officially endorsed this three-member committee on November 7, signaling a commitment to addressing the pressing issue of enforced disappearances.

The primary mandate of the committee is to review cases related to enforced disappearances, a matter of significant concern in the country.

In an effort to ensure thorough and unbiased reviews, the notification highlights that the committee is authorized to seek assistance from human rights organizations.

This collaborative approach aims to bring transparency and accountability to the process of addressing cases of enforced disappearances.

Underlining the government’s commitment to this initiative, officials from the Ministry of Law submitted the notification before the Islamabad High Court.

This development signifies a proactive step towards addressing a longstanding human rights concern, reflecting the caretaker government’s dedication to upholding justice and human rights in the country.
