Justice Mazahar challenges SJC show-cause notice in SC

Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi has taken his case to the Supreme Court, challenging the revised show-cause notices issued by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) in ‘misconduct and assets beyond means’ case.

He argues that these notices are politically motivated complaints, responding to 10 allegations in the petition.

Justice Naqvi claimed that the complaints are politically motivated due to his verdict on the Punjab elections during the Ghulam Mehmood Dogar case.

He stated that the federal government, led by Shehbaz Sharif, aimed to delay the polls, initiating a malicious campaign against him.

The judge emphasized that the complaints are a result of his duty to highlight constitutional violations.

In the petition, he asserted that the revised notice was sent without verifying the complaints’ veracity, contrary to rules.

Justice Naqvi also claimed that the SJC, by issuing the revised notice, admitted the first show cause was neither valid nor proper.

He argued that the SJC did not consider his request for the forum’s reconstitution before issuing the notice, as he had appealed in an earlier petition.
