New 10-point grade system to be introduced in matric, inter exams

New 10-point grading system to be introduced in matric, inter exams
KARACHI: To eliminate the emphasis on achieving high marks and to enhance the quality of education for students, the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) has introduced a new grading system for matric and inter examinations nationwide. Under this system, the results for the annual examinations of classes 9th and 11th, scheduled for 2024, will be disclosed.
The recently implemented grading system consists of a 10-point scale (A++, A+, A, B++, B+, B, C, D, E, U), replacing the previous 7-point grading system (A-1, A, B, C, D, E, F). The primary goal of this new system, according to IBCC, is to discourage the competitive race among students, parents, and institutions to achieve the highest marks. The 10-point grading scheme is designed to improve the assessment and evaluation processes for students.
During a workshop dedicated to the implementation of the new grading scheme for Sindh examination boards, IBCC Chairman Ghulam Ali Mallah emphasized the objective of eliminating the pursuit of high marks and offering a better education experience to students.
He noted the overwhelming response to the event, showcasing Sindh Examination Boards’ commitment to progressive changes for enhancing education quality.
Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK), Sharaf Ali Shah, expressed confidence that the new grading system would bring convenience for both students and teachers.
He highlighted its global acceptance and emphasized the need to adapt assessment systems to meet the evolving landscape of education. Importantly, this change in the grading policy does not affect the qualifications, as the scheme of studies remains unchanged.
