ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday submitted a reference in an accountability court concerning the £190 million settlement case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.

Besides Imran Khan, individuals implicated in the reference include Bushra Bibi, her associate Farhat Shahzadi, also known as Farah Gogi, PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari, former accountability head Shahzad Akbar, and Barrister Zia-ul-Mustafa Naseem.

The filing of the reference follows the conclusion of the anti-graft agency’s investigation, with the court subsequently placing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief on judicial remand in the case.

The NAB initiated an investigation into the £190 million scandal involving Imran Khan, his wife, and others, alleging the acquisition of numerous acres of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, resulting in a reported loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer. According to the charges, the former prime minister and the other accused individuals purportedly adjusted Rs50 billion, equivalent to 190 million pounds at the time, sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government.

The PTI chief established the Trust for the Al-Qadir University Project on December 26, 2019.
