PTI chief moves LHC against jail trial in ECP contempt case

PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday challenged the jail trial scheduled by the Election Commission of Pakistan in contempt case on December 13.

ECP had decided to conduct jail trial of Imran Khan in contempt case and indict the former prime minister on December 13.

Imran’s application submitted in the Lahore High Court (LHC) states that the jail trial will impact the transparency of the trial and that conducting the trial in jail violates the fundamental rights of the accused.

Former PM Khan urged the court to order the case to be conducted in an open court where the public and lawyers are allowed to attend.

Additionally, the Election Commission should be directed to halt any action against the petitioner, PTI chairman requested.
