The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has taken proactive measures to address the growing issue of counterfeit currency, releasing a comprehensive video guide to assist the public in distinguishing genuine 5000 Rupee notes from fake ones.

This step follows revelations in the Senate Committee on Finance about the prevalence of counterfeit notes, with Senator Kamal Ali Agha presenting fake 5000 Rupee notes during a recent session.

Senator Agha demonstrated the quality of counterfeit notes to the Deputy Governor of the State Bank, who couldn’t differentiate them from genuine currency. In response to concerns raised in the committee, Deputy Governor Dr.

Anayat Hussain acknowledged counterfeit currency as a global challenge, citing instances of fake US dollars. Dr. Hussain assured enhanced regulations and better oversight on currency transactions to address the issue, expressing confidence in gaining control over counterfeit currency.

The SBP’s video guide reflects a proactive approach to educate the public and protect against counterfeit notes, aligning with ongoing efforts to strengthen regulations in Pakistan.
