The Lahore High Court (LHC) asked both parties involved to provide responses to a petition challenging the recent rise in driving license fees.

Justice Sajid Mahmood Sethi made this decision after Ghulam Abbas Harl filed appeal.

The petitioner specifically mentioned the recent increase in fees for obtaining a driving license and named the Punjab government and the Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab as respondents in the petition.

Advocate Harl argued that the increase in driving license fees went against current laws.

He also stated that the government didn’t have the power to raise fees by adding extra taxes, as its role mainly involved managing daily operations, not setting fees.

He requested the court to cancel the notification about the raised fees and to order licenses to be issued at the previous rates.

Following these arguments, the court sent official notices to the chief secretary and the Inspector General of Punjab, along with other relevant parties.

The court directed the government’s lawyer to submit reply for the subsequent hearing, ensuring a detailed examination of the matter in question.
