ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is currently devising a strategy to establish governments in the Centre, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) following the emergence of independent candidates as front-runners in the February 8 general elections.

As per a statement released after the party’s core committee meeting, PTI has formed specialized committees tasked with formulating plans for government formation in these key regions. These committees aim to expedite the nomination process for significant governmental and parliamentary positions based on their proposed recommendations and strategies.

The party commended the Pakistani populace for demonstrating political and democratic maturity through their active participation in the electoral process on February 8. Additionally, PTI emphasized its determination to thwart any unethical attempts to hand over the reins of Pakistan to individuals with criminal backgrounds.

A day prior to this announcement, PTI called for the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, asserting that both the CEC and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should step down from their positions for allegedly violating the constitution.

The party spokesperson reiterated PTI’s claim to form the government at the federal level following their victory in the 2024 general elections.

They criticized what they perceive as the imposition of a second wave of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM-2) after allegedly rigged elections, asserting that the electorate has rejected dishonest political factions through their votes.

During the elections, voting occurred for 51 seats in the Balochistan Assembly, 128 out of 130 seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 296 out of 297 seats in the Punjab Assembly, and 130 seats in the Sindh Assembly. PTI-backed independent candidates notably dominated the results, particularly in the National and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies.

According to available data, independent candidates secured victory in 101 seats, with 92 receiving support from PTI and the remaining nine being general independent candidates.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured the second position with 75 seats, followed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) with 54 seats.

Other parties such as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) also secured seats in various constituencies. Additionally, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and the Balochistan National Party (BNP) each won two seats.
