The Punjab government has made a big change by updating the fees for getting a driving license, starting from January 1, 2024. They’ve switched from charging fees every five years to collecting fees annually. This change aims to make roads safer and ensure people follow the rules better.

The decision was prompted by a tragic accident caused by a young driver without a license, which resulted in six deaths. To tackle the problem of unlicensed driving, the Lahore City Traffic Police is now cracking down hard on offenders all over Punjab.

Now, when people apply for a driving license, they’ll have to pay fees every year instead of every five years. This change is meant to make the licensing process smoother, and it’s led to more people applying for licenses in recent months.

Key changes in the annual fees for different driving license categories are as follows:

* Learner:  New Annual Fee (PKR) – 500
* Bike:  New Annual Fee (PKR) – 500
* Car/Jeep:  New Annual Fee (PKR) – 1800
* Motorcycle Rickshaw:  New Annual Fee (PKR) – 500
* Light Transport (LTV):  New Annual Fee (PKR) – 2000
* Heavy Transport (HTV):  New Annual Fee (PKR) – 2000

This change is part of a broader effort to address the growing concerns related to road safety and ensure that drivers in Punjab adhere to licensing requirements. The increased annual fees aim to deter unlicensed driving and contribute to a safer and more regulated traffic environment in the region.
