Authorities in Murree have implemented restrictions on additional tourists, responding to severe traffic congestion caused by an influx of visitors following heavy snowfall in the hill station.

Tourists encountered additional challenges as power outages and a shortage of snow removal machinery exacerbated road conditions.

The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad issued an order to limit tourist entry into Murree due to the extensive traffic on roads connecting Rawalpindi-Islamabad to the hilly areas in Murree and its vicinity.

To mitigate traffic flow issues, the police have closed several main roads, including Kashmir Point, Mall Road, Guldana Road, and others, for two-way traffic. A traffic control room has been established by the district administration to provide assistance to citizens 24/7.

In response to the intense snowfall, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad announced the decision to ban tourist entry into Murree from ’17 Meel.’ The move was made in consultation with Murree management, with tourists allowed entry once the rush subsides.

During the snowfall, the civil administration, particularly the highways and WAPDA departments, faced criticism for slow preparations in snow removal.

Thousands of tourists crowded Murree, causing traffic chaos on main roads and arteries. Inefficient older vehicles contributed to operational issues, leaving many vehicles stranded on the roadsides.
