Chicken meat prices surge again in Lahore
The cost of chicken in Pakistan has reached unprecedented levels, prompting citizens to urge the government to implement measures to stabilize prices.
Chicken meat holds a significant position as one of the most consumed proteins in the country, featuring prominently in various Pakistani dishes. Throughout the year, demand for poultry remains consistently high, owing to its widespread use in diverse culinary preparations.
Previously, one of the key factors contributing to its popularity was its affordability. However, the current scenario depicts a concerning trend where chicken meat is becoming increasingly unaffordable for buyers.
Responding to this situation, the federal government has taken steps to address the issue by imposing a ban on the export of roasters. This decision aims to alleviate the strain on domestic chicken prices in Pakistan.
Reports indicate that the federal food ministry has drafted a proposal in this regard, highlighting the potential impact of the export ban.
If approved by the federal cabinet, it is anticipated that the price of chicken could decrease by Rs200 per kilogram.
This move signifies a proactive approach by the government to mitigate the burden of escalating chicken prices and ensure accessibility to this essential protein for the citizens of Pakistan.
Official sources report that the price of chicken meat is Rs626 per kilogram in Lahore and nearby regions.
If the summary gets approved, chicken prices will fall below Rs500 per kilogram in Lahore and across the nation.
