The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued the Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) alert for snow-covered and glaciated areas of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan.

As per the Met Office, day temperatures will likely remain 04 to 06 degrees Celsius above normal levels in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan from May 21 to May 27.

Increase in air temperature may enhance snow-melt. Moreover, rain-wind/thunderstorms are also likely at isolated places during the period.

The atmospheric conditions increases the risk of GLOF or flashflood in snow-covered and glaciated regions of the country.
