KARACHI: Mohenjo Daro experienced the highest temperature in Pakistan, reaching 50.5 degrees Celsius, an increase of 8°C, followed by Khairpur at 50.1°C.

Dadu recorded a temperature of 51°C, while Sukkur, Padidan, Larkana, and Khanpur in Punjab reached 50°C.

Temperatures in Rohri, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mithi, Hyderabad, Tando Jam, Mirpurkhas, and Badin were 49.5, 48.5, 45.5, 44.3, 43, and 42 degrees Celsius, respectively.

In Karachi, the temperature was 36.4 degrees Celsius.

“Pakistan is the fifth most vulnerable country to the impact of climate change. We have experienced above-normal rains and floods,” said Rubina Khursheed Alam, the prime minister’s coordinator on climate, during a news conference in Islamabad.

Weather forecasters predict temperatures could soar to 55°C (131°F) this month.

“The situation has worsened since yesterday, with heat-affected individuals arriving at hospitals in Punjab,” reported Ghulam Farid, a senior health official. Pakistan has established emergency response centers at hospitals to treat heat-affected patients.

The state-run ambulance service now carries bottled water and ice to provide emergency treatment to heat victims, according to health officials.
